In October 2025, we carried out an in situ research campaign at the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, further advancing the methodological and conceptual framework established during the initial stages of the project.
This campaign was dedicated to the study of works by Joaquín Sorolla, one of the leading figures of late 19th- and early 20th-century luminism and an artist of international acclaim.
Despite his prominence in art history, Sorolla’s work has received comparatively limited attention from the perspective of technical material studies. The opportunity to access and examine such significant works within the Museo de Bellas Artes constitutes a true research privilege. These case studies offer exceptional potential to explore questions of materiality, technique, and artistic process at the highest level of analytical rigor.
The museum’s collection provides a uniquely valuable context for investigating the technical foundations of Sorolla’s practice, enabling our team to expand the project’s scope while reinforcing its commitment to scientifically grounded, museum-based research of international relevance.
